Full Version: China: Is It a Threat

There are a few reasons why I ask this question. The first and foremost is because of their massive size. Over a billion individuals live in China. A SIXTH of our world's population. The next reason is because we are so in debt to them. And finally, with so many people against us, if China were to attack, could we survive? So, here's my question. Is China a threat to the United States or are people just worried because they're big? Compare it to a big person. He could be the nicest person, but when he's walking down the hallway, people get out of the way because he's big. Is China a threat or is it just some big country with no intension on expansion?

The United States, and it's not due to the technology or the best weapons or the biggest booms. Its because of the training. Iran has guys who stand there and pull a trigger, the US fights in an entirely different way. The only reason Muslim countries have lacked in military strength is because of their leadership establishment. They have no officers in between the privates and the generals, allowing no executive decision making. The US trains their soldiers to think, not just obey. We have the strongest because our units can fight small and effectively.

China is strong only because of its numbers, and if a major war would occur, most of those soldiers would die of starvation. They cannot produce enough bullets for every member, let alone enough food. Then again, a lot of the battles fought these past few decades have been missiles launched from far away. Which, again, the United States has a lot of. Britain, not much of a dangerous threat. And thats not a personal attack -- thats really the truth. As far as North Korea goes, their own population is starving down to nothing. And they distrust each other a lot, so a long campaign would be out of the question for them.

Didn't feel like writing it again.

China isn't really out to conquer the world, but I know they want to get Taiwan back

China has the largest standing army in the world; we wouldn't be able to invade them in their home turf. However, they can't attack us effectively because their navy sucks, as in-lack of deep-sea vessels that can reach America. The most probable way of how we're going into war is because of China attacking Taiwan. The Americans are bounded by this treaty with Taiwan to help it defend against China (and now they regret it). Currently, China is building up it's Navy and they're expanding their trade, getting raw materials (oil, rubber, etc...) In a couple of years, China will be a dangerous threat, and we can't do anything effective to stop it. If China have an effective way to send its troops to our homes, we're screwed...

Actually... the whole world would get screwed, it can start an arms race and it would be just like Cold War...or WW II + Nukes

I agree wholeheartedly.
Just read that it's expected that China will surpass the GDP of the US in 2011. Four years.

China is a threat because one day they are going to say, "Hey, we'd like our money back now" and there won't be a thing we can do about it. Once that happens, the party's over. Unless we change our economy right away and stop borrowing money from them.

I don't think it's so much an issue of being worried that they are going to invade the US or attack us outright. But, let's say they decide now's the time to get Taiwan back in the fold. What could we, or anybody do to stop them? With a Billion people, they could outfit 100Million of them with guns, and send them marching west. who could stop that?

The only way you could combat something like that, is to use Nukes. And unfortunately they have them to, so even that's out of the question.

Actually, we could just tell them to pound sand. What could they do to us? They can't reach us to do anything about it, and so far, their economy needs the US market to keep cash rolling in. Because America has a large middle class, and we have the largest disposable income per capita, they need us to spend money on "Made in China" in order to keep the lights on. Of course, that will change in a few years, once the Europen Union develops a few more years. Then, China will have another large marke to feed it's hunger.

Hmmm. Maybe China can only be a threat to us if we allow it to be. I haven't really thought about that or really looked into it, but it's quite obvious I need to look at that situation and educate myself.
LOL I'm a crappy debater. But that is thought-provoking, and that's why I like being here.
