I was reading a magazine and I noticed that the United States is one of the five countries out of 168 nations that do not have forms of maternity leave. I was rather surprised when I was reading this because I expected that the United States would be the nation that would provide this but it doesn't. Some jobs do offer pay for maternity leave but it is not mandatory. It seems like the United States is rather slow on helping mothers if they don't require pay for maternity leave; some of the mothers seem to struggle due to not being paid. A Harvard-McGill study stated that out of 173 countries that was studied, five the them did not seem to require paid leave for mothers. The five countries are the United States, Papua New Guinea, Liberia, Lesotho, and Swaziland.
How do you feel about this and do you think the government could do anything to help?
