Do you think that smoking in public places should be banned? Parents are extremely sensitive when it comes to drugs and how it could affect their children therefore many of them would want a ban on smoking in public places. It's simply harmful to the non-smoker due to second hand smoking which could be hazardous to one's health, obviously. I think that smokers do have the right to smoke but not in public places where it could have a great potential of harm on other non-smokers around them.

Do you think that it's fair to allow smokers to smoke in public places where there are people around them or do you think that smoking in public places should be prohibited?
Smokers have the right to smoke, but I have the right not to. And it isn't fair to me that some smoker gets to smoke in public because they can and it's their right. I'm sorry, but go smoke in your car. When people smoke in public they don't give anyone around them a choice as to breathing in second hand smoke or not.
Smokers are people just like you. And in some states, such as Jersey, they aren't even allowed to smoke in their car. Whatever happened to the smoking and non smoking sections of restaurants? If they have their own room, then the smoke doesn't get into your lungs. As far as bars and stuff like that, those places were made for activity such as smoking and drinking. So in other words, its alright to damage your liver, but its not alright to possibly blow some irritating smoke around the room? I don't believe second hand smoke is as deadly as people make it to be, after all, I've been around it all my life and I don't have a problem with my lungs. Let them smoke in public, and go back to the old days. They smoke in a restaurant, but in their own section. Just because someone doesn't like the smell doesn't mean they have to ruin it for everyone else.
For me it isn't just about the smell, it makes me cough and sick. Having smoking sections would have been fine had they worked. But even when there was a smoking section, it could still be smelled in the whole building. And about it not affecting people around it? With all of the toxins they put in cigarettes, I don't see how it could be possible to not affect you. I understand choice and freedom. I know that it isn't completely fair, but I don't like the smell, it makes me sick. And when one person smokes in a building, the whole building smells bad. I don't think that I should have to breathe it in as a non-smoker.
I am for there being no smoking in restaurants and places like that. I am against there being no smoking in bars. A bar should be allowed to have smoking in it, but if a restaurant is connected to it, there shouldn't be any smoking allowed. Here's what it comes down to for me. Children go to restaurants, they don't go to bars. Children should not be around the second hand smoke. There are toxins in it, that much is for certain, and for a child to be breathing that in, it's not really fair. Now, smoking outside, I don't really care. They're outside and if you don't like it, hold your breath for the ten seconds it takes to pass them. They should be allowed to smoke where they want other than in places where there is no way to escape it, such as in restaurants.
I am for smoking areas that are far away from other people. I have asthma and I can't tell you how angry I get when I'm around someone who's smoking. All I want is to not be breathing in second hand smoke. I don't care if other people do, as long as they stay in a specific area away from me.
ban smoking outright. Smokers are obviously unable to control themselves, so lets take the problem out of their hands, and ban the things. problem solved:)
Ban smoking? Ok fine. People in public with their butt cracks hangin' out offend me more than any smoker ever could. How about a butt-crack ban?

Whatever happened to free choice? If I own a business and I want to allow smoking why not? If you don't like it, CHOOSE to go to a place where they offer what you want or don't want. It's like going to KFC and ordering a friggin' steak and b!tchin 'cause they only serve chicken...............JEEEEEZ!!

Because you can look away from the butt crack. You can ignore it. You can't ignore smoke because it pollutes an air space, and it is a real health threat to some people. If people are going to smoke, then there should be a smoking area far away from other people, and I mean far away so that no smoke drifts over. Often the smoking areas don't work because smoke can carry quite far.

And if businesses were allowed to let people smoke in non-designated areas, then I can guarantee you most would.

So do it.
Until then it's a legal product.

Unfortunately for you in the name of getting people to quit govts have taxed it to such an extent and tied the monies to ongoing budgets which have nothing to with smoking, like roads and schools, that it is now impossible for them to eliminate it.

The best plan now is for govt to encourage smoking and lift all bans. Not only will this raise revenue but lower life expectancy which can help save social security!

In short, not only get used to it, but embrace it as a positive.
