If you ever watch Star Wars (yes, I am a nerd), each planet has ONE government pretty much. There are not three hundred different governments on that one planet like there are on this planet. Well, I wondered what Earth would be like if it had a single world government. Would it be better or worse for the world if it was ruled by a SINGLE person? You can see attempts at this when the Romans tried to conquer the world and when the Mongols tried to conquer the world and when Alexander the Great tried to conquer the world. Is a single world government a good move or a bad move?
And look at the results of those governments. Obviously, nothing lasts forever, and some of those guys were not the best of leaders. Basically, you're looking at a sort of peaceful dictatorship, only with a gigantic range. It won't happen, and it isn't a good idea. Humans get too greedy, and ruling the entire known world would be too much for one person to handle. Whoever it was would have to have a counsel of people who had the power to Veto any decision he makes, but then you find yourself resembling democracy. Its too complicated to simplify in the ways you'd expect. Need an example of what would happen? Look at the African countries that have one-man leaders take control. The governments are gone in ten years.
I'm sure it will come to that in time. If or when we go to space and find other planets with life I believe it will get to that. But for now... I don't know. I think it could work if there was one government, not necessarily one ruler.
I definitely don't think that it will work out for this planet. First of all, the ruler may be rather inexperienced or hypothetically assuming he is experienced, there would obviously be too much disagreement and argument. This is one of the main reason why we have the separation of powers and the checks and balances to ensure that one branch of the government doesn't have too much power. Imagine a single ruler having all the power! People who are experienced are still in need of advisers simply because they don't have knowledge of every single thing in the world. At this moment, the single world government will not work out.
Yeah, for earth, because of all this time, it will not work. I mean, I seriously don't see how it will work since if the person is a particular race, he will be very bias to his people. It could be arranged however if two parents with equal parts of each race in their blood mate together and have a child going in an airplane over the Pacific Ocean. Then the child must not have any contact with anybody (including parents) to take out bias. This however probably won't work...
Perhaps, it could also be assumed that people would respect a particular system of government; the one they were raised in and were used to. Now, I do notice that people are moving to different countries with different governments but they're able to adjust. I'm not completely sure if you're able to apply that to every single person living in this world. If there would be a single world government that they're not used to, imagine the riots and chaos that could possibly occur; perhaps even an overthrow on that particular government therefore possibly anarchy could come into play.
