What is your favorite movie and why? Personally i think that the Shawshank Redemption is the best movie since i'm sure that everybody will enjoy that movie. I have no idea why Godfather made it to #1..... perhaps someone can explain how it's so good?
I don't get people that can have just one "favorite" film. It's such a vast medium/art form - why limit yourself?
The Godfather, for a 1974 ( I think) release is magnificent. It makes me think I'm watching a movie from this day and age, and I think it was just way ahead of it's time.

Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind, or Fight Club is probably my favorite film. I need to get Netflix.
I don't like limiting myself, either, but right now I'm really into Akira Kurosawa movies, especially Sanjuro. :D

I like contemporary movies, too. like The Lord of the Rings, Braveheart, Michael Collins, The Great Escape, The Legend of Drunken Master, 300, Letters From Iwo Jima, and a lot of others! :D
There are many movies that I believe was extremely well made. The type of genre I'm in consist of mainly comedy and romance. I thought that Titanic was a splendid movie.
My favorite movie is Shawshank Redemption by a mile. Just an incredible movie.

My top 5 are
Shawshank Redemption
Usual Suspects
Pan's Labyrinth
Godfather 1 and 2 (not 3)
Goodfellas
It is easy to have a favorite film, all the rest of the squillions movies I've seen, as just not as fully satisfying as my favorites. cause I have 2 favorites. and they are....fight club (yay Difiant) and Room with a view.
Shawshank redemption was a totally brilliant film, but it fails in this respect. Once you've seen it the first time, it is spoiled for ever more. what made it good was that you had no idea what was going to happen, and what did happen was so amazing, that it made the film great. once you know the plot, it is spoiled. same with m.knight shamalan films. once you know the guys dead in the sixth sense, film spoiled forever. they are not re-watchers.
see, fightclubs coolness does not totally depend on you finding out what happens, apart from that, it is an all round excellent film. same with room with a view, all round excellent movie, totally rewatchable. a good film has to be re-watchable.
Forest Gump. I still cry in parts of that movie.
