Do you believe that people are naturally born greedy or do they develop their selfishness due to the society and the people they encounter in their life? Many would argue that we have the instinct of desiring unnecessary things when we're born, and that we're human beings, therefore they assumed that we have already have avariciousness embedded inside of us as soon as gain life. However, many would oppose that theory and claim that human beings are born completely pristine and that they only develop their greediness due to their surroundings. Some of them believe that human beings are all greedy simply because it's extremely difficult not to gain selfishness if you live in certain societies and envy what others have, therefore they desire more. What do you think?
In humans beings, I think that greed is by nurture, since there are some people who are not very greedy... (I'd even say selfless and generous.)
I think that humans are self-interested. For example, people use things like Karma, empathy and an afterlife to give them morals, and to tell them to do good things to each-other. These are all very popular because they focus on our own self-interest. Now, having said that, I don't this is all bad...not because selfishness is good or anything, but because selfish or not, this causes people to be decent to one-another. I think greed is like a sub-genre of selfishness. And, therefore everyone is also greedy by nature. Of course, people go about it differently. Some people are less successful in it, some people hide it better, etc.
I think that, like with most things, it's both. I think that greed is something we inherit, because it does have an evolutionary advantage. However, I do think that people can become more greedy due to their environment.
