All I know is that if there was ever a law in Canada on religion staying out of schools... I'd go into my old high school wearing the biggest cross I could find and start singing "Glory, glory, hallelujah" at the top on my lungs and idk... maybe start speaking in tongues.
Equality isn't censorship. It's acceptance.
I have to say, for reasons of the debate. I'm agnostic. I used to be atheist. I used to get offended when people would talk to be about religion, mostly Christianity. I hated it, and the very idea that people could pray at all in any public building disgusted me. But in high school I became best friends with a girl who is very religious. She was going to be a nun. And from her and a number of other people, I learned a lot. I learned more about Christianity, and many of the other major religions. I don't believe one way or another now. And I've learned religious tolerance. Would it bother me if half the class I was in wanted to pray for a minute before getting down to business? No. If I didn't want to take part I would read or get my homework or notes together. Would it bother me if I was told I have to pray before class? Yes.
All religions are based on faith, nothing else. I think a class that taught people about religions from around the world would be great. That way people have the option to take it and to learn about different cultures and traditions. It would be a nice elective in high school. But I will say this about high school. Now that I'm done and out of it I'm glad. The only thing high school does is teach you how to study in college. That's it. Having religion in school wouldn't change what high school is.

And by doing so -- I wouldn't be thanking God that I had to sit in a blank room in an uncomfortable chair at 7 in the morning. Sure, say a prayer before lunch or after a touchdown, but don't bring out your Bible or your prayer rag and kneel in front of the class and begin praying. Saying the rosary isn't exactly the fastest thing in the world, it only takes up time.
A. You don't have to say the whole rosary, or even the rosary at all, it's not a religious requirement for us Catholics.
B. A friend of mine in my Catholic school was Muslim, every possible way to make him feel comfortable in a predominantly Catholic environment was made to him, Atheists, and non-Catholic Christians... he went out in the hallway with his prayer RUG, took a few minutes with his obligatory daily prayers, and quietly returned to his seat. Anyone who hasn't seen, or is unfamiliar with people praying at school, is just making predictions and conjectures when it comes to people getting along that might have different beliefs among themselves.
