Should Animal Entertainment be Banned?
Do you think that animal entertainment should be banned? Horses, dogs, bulls are only a few examples of animals that are used for entertaining ranging from racing to provoking the animals. In addition, there are many animals that are forced to join the circus and perform on a daily basis. Do you think that this is unethical and should be ceased immediately for the sake of the animals or do you think that this should continue because it has been around for a long time and stopping events such as these would be destroying a tradition?
I think that all so-called "animal entertainment" should be banned. Thankfully, almost all states have laws governing the use and maintenance of animals, and protecting them against cruelty. In this respect, the law both confers rights and imposes duties regarding animals and their care. Beyond the sanction of the law, there is only moral censure. As Gandhi said: “The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated.” Dogfighting, bullfighting and bearbating is hardly a proud tradition - it is savagery. Indeed, what meanness makes sport of such inhumane abuse? It does not speak well for us.
I certainly think that some, possibly most animal entertainment should be banned, or at least limited a great degree. This even includes horse racing as far as I am concerned. I just don't think horses were meant to endure the pressure of running with those heavy muscular bodies on those small bones they have in their legs. I think zoos should be where we visit animals. There are probably exceptions to this rule, as long as care is taken in training and the animals and birds, and other things such as whales, fish, and other mammals. As long as they are not harmed in the training process, and the "entertainment" is of a natural state. Otherwise, I find any forced acts that make animals perform unnatural feats are inhumane.
I don't think so. If anything Animal Entertainment might help create more sympathy for animals. Shows like Bambie and Lassie imho truly helped to push many people to become animal rights advocates. If you take away the entertainment you risk losing empathy from children who one day will become adults.
Often in entertainment animals get better treatment and yes I understand that might not always be the case such as certain Zoos or Circus animals.
I was referring to more "unnatural" entertainment, such as pigs and horses, etc., jumping off of high dives into small tanks, elephants standing on two legs, front or back, and beating a horse until his sides are raw to run faster and faster... just to mention a couple. Of course dog and [censored] fighting doesn't come close to being in the entertainment category. And I certainly don't think Lassie was mistreated... although I haven't read any bio's. Wasn't Bambie a cartoon? Just sayin'. I think prancing, and showing "natural" things that the animals do is plenty of entertainment. As a kid on a farm, just watching the animals in their natural environment was more than enough entertainment for me. If it means forced conf;inements, tight ropes, beatings, over exertion, unnatural positions, I don't think it is good for the animals. I love to watch the trained birds, and dolphins which require nothing more than treats to train. I guess that's part of the liberalism leaking out. :)
