Quote:"God bless him, bless his heart, president of the United States -- a total failure, losing all credibility with the American people on the economy, on the war, on energy, you name the subject," Pelosi told CNN's Wolf Blitzer in an exclusive interview.

The comments came two days after the president sharply criticized Congress over what he described as relative inaction over the course of the legislative term. At the White House on Wednesday, Bush noted that there were only 26 legislative days left in the fiscal year and said Congress would need to pass a spending bill every other day to "get their fundamental job done."

"This is not a record to be proud of, and I think the American people deserve better," Bush said.

But Pelosi's comments come as a new Gallup poll registers the lowest level of congressional approval among Americans in the polling organization's 30-year history of conducting that survey.

That poll showed that its approval rating had reached an anemic 14 percent, while more than 70 percent of those polled said they disapproved of the job Congress is doing.

The House speaker said she doesn't consider those numbers a negative referendum on the Democrats in charge, saying she thinks they stem largely from Congress' failure to end the war in Iraq.

"Everything I see says this is about ending the war -- 'I disapprove of Congress' performance in terms of ending the war,' " she said. "In the House, we, of course, have over and over, five or six times, sent to the Senate legislation for a time certain to reduce our deployment in Iraq and bring our troops home safely, honorably and soon. We haven't been able to get it past the Senate or the president of the United States.

There is more at CNN. This woman is so damn clueless. The Dems were placed in charge and the economy has totally slumped. The Dems were placed in power to prevent corruption and end the war. They have achieved neither. Bush has it right...the Democrats are sitting on their hands and are ineffective leaders as usual.

Pelosi is imho enemy #1 to the American people.
Congress never gets [censored] done in an election year. It's pathetic.

But I agree with Pelosi about Bush being a punk.
Pelosi is a pitiful figure in American political history. She rode into the job she now holds on the hullabaloo surrounding her being the first female speaker of the House and, oh my, how the mighty have fallen. Pelosi now presides over the House in the poorest performing government in U.S history.
Quote:Pelosi is a pitiful figure in American political history.

Maybe so. But she is so overshadowed at the moment by the unfathomable depth of the miserable failure of the Bush presidency, that it is not likely many will take notice.

Put up your dukes you two.

I don't agree. People have hated Bush for years now...most are pretty numb to him at this point. Many have called him a lame-duck president even. For however miserable you "think" the Bush presidency is...the fact is that Congress is worse failure and it's measurable. Righties have been calling this congress the do-nothing's since it was elected and it's come to be a truth. They have done nearly nothing. Legislation has been at a complete standstill. This is why the economy is doing so poorly. I am sure you blame Bush for everything...that's sort of the normal left response and it's exactly what this thread is about. The clueless behavior of Pelosi and her party playing the blame game when they should be working toward solutions.
Well, I'm not so sure. Bush is a failure as well. I think we need to clean house as soon as possible and get people into offices who will make the necessary changes.
We simply cannot go like this. It's killing us. We're spending billions of dollars in Iraq, and our own people, here, are homeless, without health care, working two jobs, dealing with foreclosures...
I say get the hell out of other peoples' backyards and tend to our own.
Purrs,
Pookie
I ain't totally defending Bush but at this point he will be out before congress will. What's congress doing?

I agree but that's how Hitler took over 1/2 of Europe...we tried to just stay home. We can't just ignore Islamic Extremism. It's coming to us whether we like it or not.
Quote:Righties have been calling this congress the do-nothing's since it was elected

Exactly. This type of rhetoric always plays well with the masses. Congress is an easy target.

And truth be known, they do deserve contempt, for cowardly lying down and giving Bush the lion's share of legislation he wanted.
