He is known for causing "possibly the worst intelligence disaster in US history."
http://http://en.wikipedia.o...rt_Hanssen sold secrets (tons of secrets) to the Russians during the Cold War and even after the Cold War. Up until his arrest in in 2001, he was selling secrets to the Russians. He is known for America losing at least 50 contacts and known for at least TWO deaths of Russian generals who defected to America. He is now serving a life sentence at ADX Florence. He spends 23 hours in solitary confinement. If you have seen the movie Breach that came out recently, you'll know the story. So, should he have been executed for being a traitor to America or is his punishment the right one?
breach was a good movie lol
i dont' think he should of died
sure he sold a bunch of secrets to the russians, but do we kill him because he likes the russians more than the US?
sure it's treason and all that stuff, but his punishment now is probably worse than death. a lot of people would rather have a quick and painless death than live forever in a jail cell
It's not that he liked the Russians more than the U.S., because rumor had it, he did not. I do believe that the reason he did it is because he did not feel appreciated by the FBI, and the Russians appreciated what he was doing, so he kept doing it.
I don't support the death penalty, so no, I don't think he should have been executed.
The death penalty is almost pointless when dealing with spies. You are much better off finding out from them what damage they did rather than killing them off.
Yeah I agree Waffletush...I think death penatly should be reserved for violent offenders like rapists, child molestors, and of course murderers. Doesn't seem like proper punishment just for being a spy.
