He tells Social Security recipients their money would now be in the stock market under McCain's plan. False.

Summary

In Daytona Beach, Obama said that "if my opponent had his way, the millions of Floridians who rely on it would've had their Social Security tied up in the stock market this week." He referred to "elderly women" at risk of poverty, and said families would be scrambling to support "grandmothers and grandfathers."

That's not true. The plan proposed by President Bush and supported by McCain in 2005 would not have allowed anyone born before 1950 to invest any part of their Social Security taxes in private accounts. All current retirees would be covered by the same benefits they are now.

Obama would have been correct to say that many workers under age 58 would have had some portion of their Social Security benefits affected by the current market turmoil – if they had chosen to participate. And market drops would be a worry for those who retire in future decades. But current retirees would not have been affected.

Why does the age of 58 matter and what is the question?
Purrs,
Pookie
Also, we have already seen the issues of the health plan. Make up your own minds.

Maybe the age 58 has something to do with medicare?
I don't know. I do know that many conservatives are terrified of anything Obama says or does. Maybe at age 58 we have a choice: keep paying into Social Security or face one of those famous Sarah Palin Death Panels.

No, Palin was warning about the death panels, not creating them.
Comom Pookie.
You have to know this.
Most everyone does, save that guy in New Guinea who who lost his net access because his hamster wheel rustied up due to flooding.
Okay, where are these death panels in the bill, Preserva? Show me word for word where it specifically says anything about death panels or anything close to that in the bill.
I want the portion of the bill in itself where it indicates death panels, Preserva. If you can't provide real proof in the bill itself that was just passed, then leave it alone.
I want to see it in the bill that was just passed.
Thanks!

Pook, the "death panel" ideology is there. It is bound up in the service limitations that such broad government controlled coverages always bring. It isn't a pleasant thought, but rationing will definately be coming and with rationing comes the FACT that the government will be making the decision as to exactly who gets a procedure and whether or not they are a good risk to take in providing the procedure.
Where EXACTLY is it in the bill? Did you read the bill? I did. Where IS this? It took me three days to read this thing and I didn't see anything. Tell me EXACTLY where this is. Thanks!
