Do you think that it's necessary for students to learn a foreign language? For many high schools, it's listed as one of the requirement to be able to graduate. Speaking in a foreign language could be useful at times depending on the occupation you're in or in other occasions, although many students argue that foreign language would not help them in their life and that they're basically wasting their time learning a language that they won't use. In addition, many claim that it's not fair because it's a requirement that they'll have to fulfill in order to graduate.

Do you think that students should have the right to not learn a foreign language?
No, I don't think it should be a requirement. I'm not a big fan of requirements at all, really.

I think that taking a foreign langauge is great and everything though. I've taken Latin for four years and I learned more about English than I ever did in English class.
I am a proponent of requiring all students to have at least two years of a foreign language. Learning a foreign language forces students to think differently about structure and content and requires them to be creative. I see it as a good thing.

Hmm...... I did horribly in language classes in high school and jr high (took latin and french) even though I really tried. I spent 6 years in classes that I remember almost nothing from and would have benefited more in another class, but most people do better.

I'm on the fence, but lean towards no. Maybe let the school districts decide?
I think learning a second language should be required. Literacy should be a top priority and learning a second language helps to build bridges between nations. However...I do think that English should be America's official language for various reasons.
I think it is a good idea for all students to learn a second language in schools. I do think the language should be relevent to the student though. Not much point in french or german, unlass you plan to go there on holiday. Second languages should be of the people that your country relates with on a regualr basis. Like for americans, it would make sense for that language to be Spanish. But in my country, living in the asia pacific rim, the most sensible language for our student s to learn would be either chinease or japanease. In our schools, you can learn Maori, which is the indigionious language of our native people. this is useful to our culture and heritage, and not pointless, like being able to order dinner in a french resturant...
Yes, of course learning new Language is advantage for every one. I wish I would have learn new language in my school life it would have been plus point for me to find occupation or to try foreign country for study. I would have been a guide of the tourist if I had knew any foreign language except English. So there must at-least one foreign language to teach in school.
