LOL! This is going to be another debate about a controversial matter.
I believe Batman can beat Superman anytime, anyplace. Batman would just outwit Superman with his intelligence and his ability to think ten steps ahead of Superman. Superman has no chance against Batman.
Superman is stronger in almost every aspect that you can think of except for the mind which I think he is equal to Batman. Plus, Superman can fly and has laser vision.
About the "Batman is smarter thing", I concur I recalled a comic where Superman used some rapid thing where he read many books about surgery in less than 5 minutes and performed the operation on a blind girl almost flawlessly. Batman reads like a normal person...and plus, Superman knows a lot more science than Batman does.

I agree. Superman is, by far, the better of the two. He is stronger, faster, and, like Manix said, smarter. His ability to process things is far surpassing of the abilities of Batman. The ONLY thing Batman has on Superman is his ability to use gadgets. The Bat has some SICK gadgets. So I pick Superman.

I don't know what Superman comics you're reading. But, I can also recall a comic in which Batman beat superman in a fight, when superman turned evil, because of some red kryptonite.
