Howdy,

I'm new to the forum, although I have been reading it for a few weeks now. I have read a few times where a post linked another web site's article as its source, with the rebuttal that the source was invalid due to bias. My question is what is considered a reputable online source? Is there a web source that both political sides can agree is valid with as little bias as possible?

I am a complete rookie to forums in general let alone open debate, so im just trying to get an idea. Thanks in advance and I will do my best to learn how to debate proper.
Howdy Anon,

A good source is one whose own inate bias doesn't taint the credibility of the conclusions drawn in the commentary.
You can quote from any source you wish, and link to any source you wish. However, some folks will tell you some links are biased, etc., etc....but that is just their opinion.
Post from any source you wish, just be sure to link to it and follow the rules about quoting, and you'll be fine. Some will try to tell you your links are wrong, bad, biased, stupid, but just stick to your guns and debate. You'll be fine.
Welcome to Debateful, friend. I look forward to seeing you on the boards!

Of course he/she can quote from any source, the point is that some sources are horribly biased.

Sane people, Anon, will be able to make the differentiation between a politically tainted source and a source that is objective. Real debate happens when non-tainted sources are used.

The intellectually challenged will post from a tainted source and demand that it's conclusions be argued as fact, whereas an honest debater will point out such a source and refuse to allow it to be held up as one with integrity.

Good examples would be posting articles from sites like Newsmax or from Think Progress. These are tainted sources as their focus is to support their side of the political spectrum rather than presenting simple fact.

It is ALWAYS a good debate for to avoid tainted sources.

If you believe the post ahead of this one, you'll believe anything.

Don't fall into the trap we like to call Shooting The Messenger. That's where a poster is too damn lazy to search up (usually via Google) another source that presents facts according to their liking so they damn the source. It is the most disingenuous of tactics and anyone with even half a brain can search out a contrary source if the one provided is not to their liking. You can lump ThinkProgess.org into the untrustworthy category but they link back to a mainstream source on all of their stories. It's the commentary from those goddamned Liberals that the previous poster doesn't care for so he takes down the whole place over that. Like I said, it's disingenuous.

Just like it goes with restaurants, sources are varied and go according to one's tastes. In short, to answer your question, there are no sources out there that everyone agrees with. Someone is ALWAYS going to have a beef with what you posted and from where you posted it from. That's the great thing about posting: everyone has an opinion. Learn how to do a good search and you won't have too many problems with your sources. That's something some people have never learned to do.

Snicker

When one is so ideologically twisted, that means you BC, that they are seemingly incapable of posting from a non-biased source, that is when my previous commentary truly takes meaning.

When one posts from a source that is at least partially credible, there can actually be discussion. Not so much with the mental effluence you use as sources.
Anon,
Of course there is always debate about sources and all. Please don't worry about that and post as you will here. Use any and all sources you wish, and post away! Not many of us will fuss about sources, believe me.

Debate can only be had when reasonable sources are used, not partisan hit sites.
