Lmao, what are you smoking?
This isn’t a debate about what your religion says, Admiral Ackbar.
This is practicality. It’s not natural. Killing isn’t natural either. Think about it. If more than half the people in the world had the strangest impulse and instincts to kill somebody, this world would be chaotic. Murderers are also like this people, except we could live with murderers.
Let's imagine that everybody in the world was gay and happy. I wonder what would happen to the human population; I guess we would just cease to exist or something but let's go to the murderer things. You are right in only one situation. Every straight man on this earth feels the instinct for murder or another strong emotion when they see two guys kissing. It just pisses them off for some reason, and there’s no way we can help it. Plus, if we legalize this thing, it means we’re telling kids that it’s okay to be gay. Well, it’s not okay...
In addition, let's not even get started on the rumors of the diseases they brought to this world...
I want to bring a question to the table. I'm not going to answer the question in detail and only say, "Yes, it should be legalized," but that's because since I am a biology major, I can respect the biological component of homosexuality and there is a lot more to it than right or wrong. But, what my question for you is this...
Why do you find a woman attractive for all the men out there? Tell me what about a woman makes you happy. Is it the fact that they have nice breasts? Is it the fact that they are soft? Is it the fact that you can have sex with them? What defines an attraction? I know, personally, that I am attracted to women. But why? Why do I gravitate towards women? Could it be something chemically in my body? If that is the case, then perhaps the same goes for a man finding a man attractive or a woman finding a woman attractive, no? Couldn't it be chemically? And IF it is chemical, then wouldn't that be science?
So, my real question is: Why do you find the opposite sex attractive?
I'm not basing my perspectives on religion but more on science and facts. It is fact that two oppositely charged particles are suppose to attract according to physics. I'd like to use this as a universal law for everything dealing with life. It is natural for people to be attracted to the opposite sex however it is not natural for the same sex to attract each other. I based this unnaturalness on scientific knowledge.
I’m not one to say science is an answer for EVERYTHING. I believe in divinity as well but wiiaddict makes a solid point.
Wither you believe in a God or evolution… one fact remains constant. Humans were designed with two sexes for a reason. Procreation!
Yes, there are animals that are asexual and yes, I’ve seen ‘homosexual’ behavior once, (a male dog went for another male dog) but Humans are not animals. Generally, we eat them. If I’m going to eat something, I consider it a lower life form. So therefore, I don’t give a crap about their mating habits and I’m not going to compare myself to an animal!
Back to my original point… We are meant to procreate (biologically)… Why encourage something that goes against the laws of God, and furthermore the laws of science? That’s a great way to bring the worlds population down, don’t ya think?
Why am I attracted to women? I can’t say for sure. But for me, it’s natural in every sense I guess. People can say that homosexuality is natural for some (Chemically) but I’d say not. If it were, would a man and a man or a woman and a woman not have the ability to procreate with one another?
I’ve also heard people say that it can just be about attraction and not procreation. But there’s a flaw in that logic, I’m sorry. Just because something feels good or right, does not make it so.
And if homosexuality is caused by genetics or a flaw, can it not be corrected? You can separate conjoined twins, remove extra limbs, combat heart defects… Why can you not combat homosexuality from a medical standpoint? If it is in fact a mix up of cells, genes, or whatever?
The real answer to your question, Jacob, is the complete science answer. Chemicals in your body makes you feel attracted to somebody. There's proof for that as they know it is a neurotransmitter and all that. So the thing is, i totally agree with you. These homosexuals have problems with their neurotransmitters and sure, some animals in nature are gay; including the small percentage of humans. Although, also remember that some animals and humans in nature are born with mental instability or something else. Why not help them out? I label them as sick, unhealthy people that way. They need help and when we one day come with the cure for "gayness", their minds will be set straight and there will be no problem. But until then, I guess no marriage for the gays. It's just like telling mentally challenged kid that he can't vote for president until we find a cure for him so he can think straight.
It has nothing to do with a neurotransmitter, so stop throwing out big biological and neurological words when you've no idea what they mean. It has to do with pheromones, a chemical that your body gives off. There have been studies that suggest that it is the pheromones that are given off by the body that determine attraction. And therefore, it is suggested that the brain of a male homosexual picks up on the scent similar to one picked up by a female heterosexual. So, it has nothing to do with a 'sickness' or a 'retardation' as you put it. It has to do with a preference. You don't like every single food, I am sure. Why? Because you have preferences. Your brain has preferences. It picks up on different odors and that's how it determines if it likes something. So, if you don't like chicken, does that mean you're sick?
Now, onto the discussion of this being unhealthy. I was wondering if you could tell me exactly how it is unhealthy. I mean, I have met a considerable number of homosexuals and not only are they extremely healthy, they are incredibly intelligent. I have ACTUALLY found that it is homosexual MEN that are more healthy and in better shape and take better care of themselves than that of heterosexual males. Is that a sickness too? I don't understand why it is wrong for someone to find an attraction towards the same sex. Other than the fact you don't like it for your own insecure reasons, why is it that they cannot be attracted to whomever they want? Religion should not be brought into it because there should be a separation of Church and State and obviously I have shut down your debates about it being biologically wrong, so what else is there to argue against gay marriage?
Hey what happened to Dante?

How do you know you are attracted to somebody, Jacob? You feel it: the feeling is caused from the neurotransmitters that your brain releases. If somebody is getting turned on by the wrong things, that means that there is something wrong with his god damned receptors so I guess that really has nothing to do with the neurotransmitters; it has to do with the neurotransmitters receptors (or receptors on the dendrites), silly of me.
Also yes, I do have preferences to eat, but I’m saying that if I had the preference to eat radioactive uranium, that means there’s something totally wrong with me. Also, of course, Jacob, as a man of science, you should know what being “fit” or “healthy” is. I don’t mean literally fit and muscular or anything like that. What I mean is being able to reproduce the most amount of kids possible. If there was a homeless guy with 9 kids, he is more fit than the president with no kids. Obviously, gays can’t really reproduce so they’re not really “fit” biologically therefore I guess that does make it biologically wrong.
Do you really want to debate about what a neurotransmitter is with someone aspiring to become a neurologist? "Neurotransmitters are the chemicals which account for the transmission of signals from one neuron to the next across synapses. They are also found at the axon endings of motor neurons, where they stimulate the muscle fibers to contract. And they and their close relatives are produced by some glands such as the pituitary and the adrenal glands." (Reference found here.) As you can see, it has absolutely nothing to do with the secretion of ANYTHING from your brain. And for the record, your brain doesn't secrete anything. It tells a gland to secrete something. There is no interpretation in the receptors. Interpretation comes in your brain; therefore, it is your brain that determines 'what is good and what is bad.'
Now, I've already stated in a previous post that to be considered life, and I quote from Kathleen Park Talaro's Foundations in Microbiology, Sixth Edition that life is composed up of:
1. Growth and Development
2. Reproduction and Heredity (everyone has DNA, Chromosomes, Genes, and the potential (unless you're impotent to reproduce).
3. Metabolism which includes cell synthesis and the release of energy (ATP).
4. Movement and/or irritability
5. Cell support, protection, and storage mechanisms.
6. The capacity to transport substances into and out of the cell.
That is what LIFE is...The ability to do those things. If you cannot, technically, you're not considered alive. However, let's consider the possibility that those that are unable to reproduce (due to impotence or some sort of disease) are still alive because they possess genetics. Now, you missed my point about the interest in food. You don't like chicken, just hypothetically speaking. It has nothing to do with uranium. My example was your dislike for chicken. Well, does that mean you're wrong? No. It means your brain processes that stimulus different. The same goes for the pheromones for individuals, whether they are homosexual or heterosexual.
Now, here is my FINAL point...You are dead set on the fact that we need to overpopulate this world and destroy it. But, despite that...Let's look at one final point. Is homosexuality alright, then, if, say, the gay male donates his sperm? Well, now he has technically helped someone potentially get pregnant. Is he not reproducing? Sure, it isn't the carnal, lustful sex that we see in pornographic movies between a man and a woman. But, is he not spreading his genetics? And furthermore, what if a lesbian woman buys sperm from a bank and gets pregnant that way? Isn't she reproducing? So tell me something...What's wrong? Why is it that a man cannot love a man because those two can't make a child TOGETHER, but it's okay for some married hetero couples to never have children. Why is that alright? Why do the heterosexuals not have to have children but your argument's point is that homosexuals shouldn't get married because they CAN'T have children with each other. I'm quite confused because as I just demonstrated, a homosexual man can still pass on his genetics due to science today. And a homosexual woman can still get pregnant due to science today. So...What's the problem?

I have no idea what Manix's neurotransmitter thing is about but...
Manix has a point in the uranium thing. Even though some things are not edible, why do people still try to eat them? They must have some kind of mental disorder, like when people sees things that are not real (I just saw a movie on this mathematician who teaches at Harvard, that he sees people who doesn't exist.) The homosexuals must be attracted to the wrong kind of pheromones. The Brain is the judgmental center, but if the brain somehow got messed up (homosexuality), then they need to fix it (straight).
Homosexuality isn't right even if a guy is donating the sperm, because donating sperm ISN'T NATURAL. The "gay" gene, if there is one, should be dead if we didn't have sperm banks, unless it's somehow mutated during the embryo development. Some heterosexuals cannot make babies because they have
a.)severe trauma to the testes/or losing it (eunuchs)
b.)human-influenced chemical changes to the body
c.)radioactivity/mutation
d.)"bad" genes
e.)all of the above
It's misfortune that they cannot reproduce, but at least they can have "real" sex.
Here's my question: Why let gays marry? Is it because it's good for the gay community? What about the straight community? What would change in society on social, economic, and political issues?
Who cares about the good of "society" when talking about mariage and sex? Seriously, what are we, Amish? Communists? Is it good for two people who love, like, or just want to plain be with each other to marry? What next, not allow people with AIDS to marry? Governmental control over homosexual marriage is ridiculous, let the individual alone in their private lives. Sex is between two consenting individuals, and so is marriage.
