I'm on a local police advisory council, and part of our training was to learn about tasers. There isn't any lasting damage, it just hurts a lot at the time and wears off pretty quickly. And in order to use one, you have to get tased. The officer who did it knows how it felt. I can't feel too bad.
I've read several stories in the past months of officers repeatedly tasing suspects who died from injuries sustained.

Well here's something and it's a correlation
Most of those people who die from being tasered are high on drugs.

And based on what Koishii said, I doubt that cops would allow them to do this to themselves, if it killed people.
Even the police chief had to do it. He said it hurt a lot, but he was fine a few minutes later. He said he wouldn't want to do it again, and that's usually why people stop doing whatever it was that they were doing.
