I was just saying that if we allow 18-year-olds to make decisions for themselves such as going to war, and if we call them adults, then I don't see why they shouldn't be allowed to drink as well.
It does not matter where the legal limit/age of any controlled substance is set. Whoever is under the cap will always say 'well if we can do <xxx>, then why can't we do <yyy>.'
The only way to end this tired, old, 'argument' is to have no limit/age on any controlled substance, but then you begin the tired, old, 'argument' of "Children should not be allowed to have access to these substances, it is irresponsilbe". Then you set a limit, and yada yada yada.

No, this is different. 18-year-olds are supposed to be legal adults, so I can't understand how this law could ever make sense.
Yes, and in some states you cannot rent a car until you are 21, or even 25, yet you don't see the 'uproar' over this as you do a legal drinking age.
My point stands.
How about we let those in the armed forces drink. Seems the only people mentioned so far that can't drink are soldiers under 21.
For what it is worth, on military bases oveseas, you only have to be 18 to by alcohol.

I do not like that you can't rent a car until you're 21/25 in some states either. For me, these laws take away what it means to be an adult.

I would think that the libs would want the drinking age raised up to five years before we reach retirement.
It would go a long way to ensure that the young stay alive long enough to pay into Social Security and then kill them off with booze before they can collect.
Sound socialist economic policy if you ask me.

So you'd be OK with removing all age restrictions from everything?
So you'd be OK with removing all age restrictions from everything?
No, of course not. I just think that, once you turn eighteen, that should be the end of most age restrictions, including the ones such as drinking or renting a car.
should be
most
Way to go out on a limb there!
I think that it makes since if you can buy cigarettes at 18 and all that other stuff, but drinking comes at 21.
Let’s take buying cigarettes as an example at the age of 18.
When you're 18, some people think that, "Oh I’m 18 now, I want to buy a cigarette because I know I have the freedom to do so!"
Then they get hooked on smoking.
By the time your 21, you realize that that was stupid, and you’re more careful and responsible.
Smoking really only hurts you, one person. Drinking and Driving could hurt multiple people.
So they give you three years to come to your senses and get a little more responsible and learn that with power comes responsibility.
