Alright, I was hoping someone else might make the topic, but since no one wanted to, I suppose I'll step up and do it. Do you think that Global Warming is really going on right now or do you think that it is just something else that politicians are trying to use to gain support for whatever diabolical plans they have? And, if Global Warming is happening, do you think that it is something to worry about? And finally, are we responsible for this Global Warming or is it something else, such as a natural cycle of the Earth that has happened before? What is your opinion on it?
I think that global warming is fact, but there is nothing wrong with doing any additional research into it, to determine whether its being over publicized or not.
I came across an article today that really got me thinking about global warming. Basically, a tropical virus was found in Italy. Now, Italy can get warm, but it's not the tropics, so certain insects should be unable to live there. Yet...Now they were and they brought with them a virus. I wonder...Could this really be the Earth warming up so much and now new nations are threatened by such diseases? Here's the article to read up on it:

I don't know that Global Warming is the appropriate name for what we are seeing. I tend to see it more as global climate change. What distresses me is that the issue has been so politically hyped that productive discussion pro or con is almost guaranteed not to happen. Are humans directly responsible for it? I don't know that we know one war or the other. Is the climate change that we are seeing a cyclical thing? I don't know the answer to that either.
I think it's more of a natural cycle than anything else. We just really do not know the history of the climate before 200-300 years ago.
It's definitely happening, I think. As to what exactly is causing it is the more debatable part. I think it might be a bit of both the earth's natural cycle and our pollution causing the greenhouse effect.
Global warming is a fact. The overwhelming scientific evidence indicates that global warming is occurring at an accelerated rate caused by hydrocarbon emissions into the atmosphere, and that anthropogenic activity is a significant contributing factor. It is time that people stop playing politics and face up to the problem. See "The cold truth about climate change" by Joseph Romm, Salon.com (February 27, 2008) at http://www.salon.com/news/feature/2008/0...g_deniers/
Be careful what you claim.

Global warming is a fact. The overwhelming scientific evidence...

What's overwhelming is the amount of money being poured into shody scientific theories and scientists are making bank over it. It's like tobacco research done by the cigarette companies. They have an agenda. Often they are paid to "prove" and "research" man-made global warming.

At least you pointed to an interesting article.

The evidence linking global warming to human activity has been established by research and experimentation results collected by the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) based on over seven million observations of temperature, salinity and other variables in the world’s oceans; and has definitively ruled out natural climate variations due solar activity, volcanic eruptions, photosynthesis, etc. as the cause of measurable increase in ocean temperature, which has risen 0.9F in just the past 40 years. (The same findings were made in a long-range study in Britain.) Even the Pentagon acknowledges the fact of global warming and the threat of climate change on national security interests. See Peter Schwartz and Doug Randall, “An Abrupt Climate Change Scenario and Its Implications for United States National Security” (October 2003). In face of the scientific evidence, which has been independently verified, to say that there is any doubt about it is no longer tenable.
Balderdash!
Man made GW is nothing but a Marxist vehicle to drive socialism into the heart of America!

NOAA: Coolest Winter Since 2001 for U.S., Globe
March 13, 2008

The average temperature across both the contiguous U.S. and the globe during climatological winter (December 2007-February 2008) was the coolest since 2001, according to scientists at NOAA’s National Climatic Data Center in Asheville, N.C. In terms of winter precipitation, Pacific storms, bringing heavy precipitation to large parts of the West, produced high snowpack that will provide welcome runoff this spring.

In the contiguous United States, the average winter temperature was 33.2°F (0.6°C), which was 0.2°F (0.1°C) above the 20th century average – yet still ranks as the coolest since 2001. It was the 54th coolest winter since national records began in 1895.

Look at these graph!
We are in a cooling trend, at the same time our co2 output is increasing!
How is this possible???

World Temperatures according to the Hadley Center for Climate Prediction.
Note the steep drop over the last year.
Notice the far right of this graph...How can this be???

Check this one out!

So every 120,000 years we go through a warming peak, followed by a precipitous drop in temp.
It's about 100,000 years from the peak to the trough.
This is the time-frame of the temp-cycle were supposed to effect with our conventional light-bulbs?????
I'm sick to death of this.

Forget global warming: Welcome to the new Ice Age

Lorne Gunter, National Post Published: Monday, February 25, 2008

Snow cover over North America and much of Siberia, Mongolia and China is greater than at any time since 1966.

The U.S. National Climatic Data Center (NCDC) reported that many American cities and towns suffered record cold temperatures in January and early February. According to the NCDC, the average temperature in January "was -0.3 F cooler than the 1901-2000 (20th century) average."

China is surviving its most brutal winter in a century. Temperatures in the normally balmy south were so low for so long that some middle-sized cities went days and even weeks without electricity because once power lines had toppled it was too cold or too icy to repair them.

There have been so many snow and ice storms in Ontario and Quebec in the past two months that the real estate market has felt the pinch as home buyers have stayed home rather than venturing out looking for new houses.

In just the first two weeks of February, Toronto received 70 cm of snow, smashing the record of 66.6 cm for the entire month set back in the pre-SUV, pre-Kyoto, pre-carbon footprint days of 1950.

And remember the Arctic Sea ice? The ice we were told so hysterically last fall had melted to its "lowest levels on record? Never mind that those records only date back as far as 1972 and that there is anthropological and geological evidence of much greater melts in the past.

We're all going to freeze!
I'm lobbying for gov mandates that every American must run a combustion engine for at least 3 hrs/day to save us from global freezing.
To subsidize this earth saving strategy, we cut gas taxes by 70%.
This is money right into the pocket of the consumer, no need for it to go through the sticky walls of Congress.
Cut out the middle man.

This is what we do,
not only burn as much oil as possible, we burn wood to heat our homes, or just for the hell of it.
This is a two-fold benefit to combat Global Freezing.
1) Wood smoke contributes helpful greenhouse gasses.
2) This will help us thin out-of-control forests, which are co2-sucking monsters and combat the scourge of "forestation" and "Global Freezing".

Our planet goes through cycles, always has.
Now the left wants to tax us for it.
They should be able to find other avenues to punish Americans, besides the weather.
