That's how the Bible refers to God. God's referred to as He. It sounds insulting to call God an It, just because of how the English language is.

I think He really has no gender, but I still call Him 'He'.

I think the Bible refers to God as a "He" because the Bible was written by men...and when it was written and compiled, women who were literate didn't exist. A "she" god would have been insulting, since women have traditionally, in most Hebrew, Christian and Islamic cultures. always been considered inferior.

Understandable, but would a woman have the initiative or cold-blooded reality that a male god would have to send His/Her only son to die for your sins? And besides, isn't that cruel in its own fashion?

"Hey, son, you've got to die on a cross and be ridiculed and tortured. Don't worry, even though I'm sure it'll have an emotional stain on your life forever, you'll be resurrected on Easter Sunday and kids will worship you via the Easter Bunny, so it's all good."

Because that's the harsh reality in all of this. God did send It's one and only son down to die, no doubt It already knew that Jesus was going to die a horrible death, and then get resurrected to prove he was God's son. To tell you the truth, if my father were to do that to me, I'd be pretty pissed off at him, pardon my speaking.
