Back in 2005, there was a lot going around about whehter or not Terri Schiavo should have been taken off the breathing tubes. For those that don't know, Euthanasia is assisted suicide. In a sense, the doctor goes in and will take a person off of their vital machines and they will pass away. So, is this right or wrong? Furthermore, should a doctor who has taken the Hippocratic Oath offer to ease someone's suffering by assisted suicide? Is it medicine or is it murder?

I think that Assisted Suicide should be allowed. When one is in great pain, and living off tubes with almost no sense of being, it is the best thing to do. It's like if you posed this question: Would you like to live longer, but in great pain, or shorter but with no pain? I'm sure, everybody would choose the second choice.

Nobody likes suffering.

Besides pain being a factor, it's hard on a person's family. It is also expensive and could be embarrising. I would rather see a loved one die without suffering. It is as simple as that.

Do you support euthanasia? Basically, it's ending a life by medical means, when it's at a point where there's no hope of recovery. If the person wants to die, do you think that the government should allow that right to that person?

For example, if a person wants to die simply because he/she was informed by her doctors that there was absolutely no chance of recovery and that the pain he/she is experiencing is simply unbearable. Do you think that they should have the right to ask the doctors to provide a medical way for them to die and then being able to die by those means?

Now, would it honestly be humane to allow a person to live with excruciating pain and agony?

Are you talking about the religious argument or the medical argument?

Personally I think if someone is in terrible terminal pain, then why not let them go early IMO.

It was the medical argument by the way, since it was posted in the science section.

It should be done. We do it for dogs when we know they are going to die and they're suffering, but we don't do it for people - instead we let them suffer even if they want to die.

I did not like the thing with Terri Schiavo though. Just take her feeding tubes away from her and let her slowly dehydrate and let her organs shut down one by one. They should have just made it quick and painless.

I agree! Once the courts decided she had no right to live, and the family had no right to care for her, they should have simply put a gun to her head and shot her. Starving her to death was really inhumane.

As for people in pain with terminal illness, they should be allowed to choose to be humanely put down. No question in my mind.

I think if someone had to be keep alive through machines, then it is not God's will for them to be alive, and the finical strain on the family would be great.

Ah...so if it's not "God's will" for them to live, shouldn't "GOD" do the work of killing them? And taking your line of thought a bit further... since keeping someone alive with a machine is against God's will..wouldn't using a pacemaker or respirator also be against "God's will?" How about inoculations against diseases that God created? If God created the germs, (all God's creatures)...isn't it God's will that those who get them die too? (Some Christian sects do preach that.)
